About Dr Munting

Dr Thane Munting is one of the founding associates of the Cape Town Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic based at the Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital in the city of Cape Town.  This clinic consists of a group of orthopaedic surgeons who have super-specialised with specific interests in certain areas of musculoskeletal surgery.  The clinic is also associated with the Cape Sports Medicine Group which consists of a number of specialist sports physicians based at the Sports Science Institute in Newlands, Cape Town.  This unit therefore facilitates both non-surgical and surgical management for orthopaedic pathology.

Dr Munting is a University of Cape Town trained Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon with 2 and a half years United Kingdom Fellowship training, who has developed a special interest in hip and pelvic surgery primarily.  Therefore, what is perhaps unique about his practice, is that he deals with all aspects of hip surgery covering all age groups, i.e. paediatric to geriatric and all hip surgeries seen in these age groups including pelvic and hip joint trauma.  Many of these operations aim to be joint preserving, both open and arthroscopic, while others are end stage joint replacement surgeries and/or revision surgeries.  This type of practice has resulted in a greater level of understanding and knowledge with respect to hip and pelvic anatomy and biomechanics which aids diagnosis and advice regarding evidence based management options.

A word from the Doctor himself:

Hi, this website aims to provide an informative guide to prospective as well as existing patients of mine. It will hopefully streamline your interaction with me. It should also help you determine, whether you should  see me as a specialist pelvic and hip surgeon, and knee surgeon or whether you would be better served seeing other specialised area surgeons or non-surgical musculoskeletal treatment specialists.  I have hopefully created a website that will help you understand your symptomatology and the surgeries that I perform.  Please read on and forgive any typo's. Regards.
